I am a software engineer by trade and training, however somewhere along the line I realized that to be really good at what you do, you have to understand people first. After all the goal of any software system is to either model the actions taken by people, or make their lives easier. In order to become more in touch with users of the systems I create, I started hitting the road in 1997 so that I could talk directly to them. Oddly enough once I put my foot into the world of customer interactions, solution architecture, and implementation I never left. There is just something about taking an Idea, coming up with a plan to make that idea work, and sweating hard with a team of people to see it succeed – that just enthralls me.
This blog is an attempt to talk about those two worlds. People and technology, as well as how technology can help people lead more productive lives, and improve their businesses.
I also hope to share some interesting stories from some of my customer implementations, which are often times very humorous. No real names will be used in the production of this blog, and any resemblance to an actual implementation that you might have done yourself is purely coincidental. If you’re a former customer of mine, you must remember that I appreciate everyone one of you. You have taught me more, and made me laugh harder than I ever thought possible. Whether you live in the middle of the Frozen Tundra – Wisconsin – or in one of my favorite cities on earth London, you are amazingly important to me.
